Creative Birmingham
“we’ve been running an anything-goes open mic every month since January 2006, first at the Market Tavern and now at the Adam & Eve in Digbeth. Our original purpose was to try and publish people’s writing and fund other multi-media projects such as music CDs and - now we’ve thought of it! - films. We’re entirely self-funded - we had to flog a lot of handmade cards to raise the money for our first book! But luckily it was a huge success and has even sold out of its second print-run. It’s a collection of humorous offbeat poetry by Big Bren Higgins, James Kennedy and Paul Rafferty, all fairly well known on the underground poetry scene in Birmingham - Big Bren is particularly well-loved at the Chaos Acoustic Club where he’s the house poet every Sunday night at the Old Moseley Arms in Balsall Heath.
We recently released a second book - a collection of short stories by Louise Stokes - and now we’ve decided to all work together for the first time for our next creative project, the film. You can follow our progress at www.wroteunder.wordpress.com.”
