Being in the business of producing luxury goods may not feel like the best place to be in the midst of a recession but there are reasons for optimism. The jewellery market as a whole is expanding (by value) and the proportion of market share taken up by the top end is growing at the expense of the costume jewellery/fast fashion sector. The continued good fortune of the haute couture sector of the clothing market has been in the national press recently and indicators are that the jewellery market will show similar patterns.
This is more than just my opinion and I am in process of putting my money where my mouth is. I have set up and am looking for stock for www.AspiringDesign.co.uk an online jewellery store which will target design conscious consumers looking to invest in high quality. By offering a unique product range by new otherwise unrepresented jewellery designers and promoting all the exciting creative work going on in Birmingham’s jewellery sector.
